Born in 1961 in Wroclaw (Poland), he was first awarded as a young (17) talent at the "Jazz nad Odra" festival, in 1978. In 1980, at the same festival, he received the 2nd prize. Baron won the "Grand Prix" at the "San Sebastian Jazz Aldia" festival, in 1983.
Soon after, he started his musical cooperation with great Polish bandleaders like:
Zbigniew Lewandowski, Jan Ptaszyn Wroblewski, Jarek Smietana, Zbigniew Namyslowski, Henryk Majewski, Tomasz Stanko.
For many years, Piotr Baron has been in the field as a lecturer and a teacher of jazz and blues saxophone. He has run his own educational program at almost every workshop in Poland and many abroad. He is the author of the revolutionary books:
"Technics of Saxophone" ("Techniczna szkola na saksofon") and
"Jazz studies for a saxophone" ("Etiudy jazzowe na saksofon").
Since 1998, he has been teaching a saxophone class at the Private Jazz and Pop Music School in Wroclaw. He also has his own radio program "Jazz Baba Ryba" on Polskie Radio Wroclaw.
Baron has recorded more than 20 LPs and CDs as a sideman and 4 of his own:
"Take One", "Tango", "Blue Rain" and "Bogurodzica"
In 2003 he recorded the album "REFERENCE" for Sony Jazz in New York City with John Hicks, Eddie Henderson and Victor Lewis.
In March of 2006, Piotr Baron will fly to Los Angeles (California) to record an albm titled "SALVE REGINA" (CELESTIS), with Leo "Wadada" Smith, Darek Oles Oleszkiewicz and Marvin Smitty Smith.
During the last decade, Baron has become one of the most influential leading European tenor and soprano saxophonists. Very often invited by bands from abroad as a sideman and successfully touring with his own quartet all around Europe as well.
In his long musical career Baron has played with such artists as:
Ray Charles, Art Farmer, Carter Jefferson,
Eddie Henderson, Billy Harper, Al Porcino, Kevin Mahogany,
David Friesen, Clarence Seay, Harvie Swartz, Ronnie Burrage,
Greg Bandy, Malcolm Pinson, Francesca Tanksley, Jorge Rossy,
Jasper Van't Hof, Carlos Johnson, Karen Edwards
and many other gifted musicians.
