Deepak was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 1975, he began studying bansuri and tabla. In 1981 Deepak became a disciple of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, India's grand master of bansuri.
Deepak has performed and conducted music workshops in Indian music at universities and community centers throughout South Africa, England and most recently the United States.
Prior to moving to England in 1994, Deepak held the post of Lecturer in the Department of Music, University of Durban (South Africa), where he received his masters degree in contemporary composition. His area of study was Exploring the effective synthesis between Indian and Western music.
Deepak has written many works for ballets, plays, choral groups, Western classical musicians, Jazz soloists, and television. His compositions have been released on his own album "Flute for Thought", released in England, as well as on "Indian Dream" by "Emam & Friends". He has also released compact discs of North Indian Classical music.
Deepak moved to the United States in 1999.
