Habib Khan was born into a family of musicians.
His lineage of master musicians can be traced back several generations
to when Indian classical music enjoyed the patronage of the
nobility and royalty of India.
He began his training at the tender age of five under his father
Ustad Hameed Jaffar Khan. Over the years he has carved out a distinct
style of his own. He blends his father's traditional techniques with his
own imaginative style to create a unique sound. He is as much at ease
with light classical and devotional music as he is with pure
classical rendering of ragas.
Habib Khan was only fourteen when he began teaching music at the
Sangeet Natak Acadeny, a prestigious music school in Bombay.
Habib khan lives and teaches in the San Francisco Bay Area.
He has created many albums with various musicians including
Zakir Hussain and Swapan Chaudhuri. He has also composed music for
a fourteen-tape yoga video series by yoga expert Vasanti Bhat.
Habib Khan has toured extensively throughout the United States and in India.
He is the founder/director of the Habib Khan school of music and the
OM music circle, an organization he created to promote the Music of North India.
